What Aromas And Scents Deter Bed Bugs?

Have you ever heard of someone using certain scents and aromas to repel pests in their gardens? Well, you might be surprised to learn that this isn’t just a myth. It works, and it’s entirely possible that it could work for bed bugs as well. Many bugs are repelled by scents like peppermint, tea tree oil, and lavender.

This same can be said for bed bugs! That being said, there is a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to bed bugs. This is especially true for deterring scents and aromas. Want to know the truth? Bed Bug Exterminator Detroit

One known and proven scent that has been scientifically proven to repel bed bugs over the years is pheromones. Not just any pheromones, but pheromones that are secreted by the nymphs or baby bed bugs. Baby bed bugs secrete these scents to deter older male bugs as a means to keep them from trying to mate with them.

The only problem is, these scents and pheromones only deter male bed bugs. They will do nothing to dissuade females. You can put out as much of this scent as you want, and it will not deter any female bug.

That being said, there are still many replant products sold containing these scents. It is better to try these products than doing nothing, but it should be known that this is why over the counter products containing these scents are oftentimes ineffective.

The United States Department of Agriculture has conducted many studies over the years, revolving around essential oils and how effective they are at deterring bed bugs. Unfortunately, these bugs do not appear to be repelled by the smell of the oils, but the oils do interact with their bodies.

The most effective forms of essential oils have proven to be blood orange, paraffin, silicone, and spearmint throughout the years. As was already mentioned, the effectiveness of these oils is minimal at best.
